To the editor:
A saying that is widely known among animal lovers is, “In a perfect world, every home deserves a dog and every dog deserves a home.”
We all know that this not a perfect world. It is certainly evident in the editorial published in the Portsmouth Times (“Pets deserve much better,” Jan. 7, 2016).
The people that live on Redwood Road do not deserve to own an animal that they keep outside more than 14 hours a day and then crated when brought inside because the dog isn’t house-trained and destroys furniture.
Have they ever heard of training? If they do not have time or desire to do the training, do not take this out on the dog! This is called cruelty and this poor, unloved and uncared-for animal needs to be removed from this house.
Having an animal living with you, one needs always to remember to:
• Treat them kindly
• Do not break their spirit.
• Teach them good things they should learn.
• Speak to them often.
• Keep fresh water and clean food available; they cannot tell us when they are thirsty or hungry.
• Being a domesticated animal, they are no longer accustomed to bitter elements.
Please give this dog a chance for a better life. Release it to a shelter so that it may be adopted and cared for in a loving way.
