PORTSMOUTH — Here are some highlights from the Portsmouth Police reports from over the past week.
Thursday, Dec. 31
Robert D. Chavous, 50, of 140 Corys Lane, was charged with domestic assault and domestic vandalism with malicious injury to property. Police responded to his home at 12:22 a.m. after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance in progress. Police said Mr. Chavous tried to prevent a woman from entering his home, causing her to fall down the front stairs and injuring her hands and knee.
Amanda M. Ruzzo, 27, of 2749 East Main Road, Apt. 2, was arrested at 1:49 a.m. on charges of domestic assault (third offense) and violating a no-contact order, both felonies. Police said Ms. Ruzzo struck a 28-year-old Portsmouth man in the face several times with her fist during an argument following a night out in Providence. Police said they observed a small cut on the man’s face and scratch marks to his forehead.
Friday, Jan. 1
Monica L. Boswell, 32, of 4 Bosworth Court, Newport, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) and driving without, or on, an expired license at 1:12 a.m. Police stopped her car on West Main Road at Bayview Estates because it left the lane of travel, according to police.
Saturday, Jan. 2
Elizabeth S. Corwin, 44, of 43 Coolidge Ave., Weymouth, Mass., was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Her car was pulled over in the parking lot of Cindy’s Cafe on West Main Road at about 1:50 a.m. because it was observed leaving the lane of travel, police said.
Sunday, Jan. 3
George L. Glover, 38, of 32 John H. Chafee Boulevard, Newport, was arrested at 1:27 a.m. on a charge of making threats to public officials. The charge stems from information an officer received from Newport police on Jan. 2, in which it was alleged that a “hit list” of several police officers was posted by Mr. Glover on Facebook. The list included an emoji showing a picture of a police officer with a gun to his head, police said. Earlier that same day, Mr. Morse was arrested by Portsmouth police for driving with a suspended license, and later left a message on the officer’s voice mail in which he said he hoped to “run into” him later, according to police. A warrant was issued for Mr. Glover’s arrest and Newport police picked him up on Jan. 3.
Two people were arrested after a car was stopped on Route 24 northbound near Freeborn Street around 4 p.m. because the driver wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. A passenger, Jeannine M. Zecchini, 30, of 20 Skyline Drive, Apt. 10, Braintree, Mass., was charged with possession of a controlled substance — a felony —after police found the drug Suboxone, for which she couldn’t provide a prescription. The driver, Joshua L. Desmond, 28, of no permanent address, was charged with driving after his license had been denied, suspended or revoked, and obstructing a police office in the execution of duty. Police said Mr. Desmond initially identified himself as “Jeffrey Desmond” and provided the wrong date of birth. Police said there was also an active warrant for Mr. Desmond’s arrest on a shoplifting charge out of Newport.
Gregory S. Mathias, 29, of 3283 East Main Road, was charged at 10:35 p.m. with domestic assault, second offense. Police said Mr. Mathias threw a “flea bomb” at a woman, grabbed her on the top of her head and held it down by her hair.
Tuesday, Jan. 5
Kyle A. Yusen, 24, 8 Ruth Ave., Portsmouth, was charged with domestic assault, obstructing an officer in the execution of duty and resisting arrest. Police responded to Mr. Yusen’s home shortly after 1:30 a.m. for a report of a possible domestic disturbance. Police arrived to find a woman sitting in a vehicle outside the home. Mr. Yusen yelled expletives at officers when they came to his door, police said. He also resisted officers’ attempts to restrain him and continued to be verbally abusive to them on the way to the station, police said.
