Bad night: Man loses $900 gambling, arrested in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH — Here are some highlights from the Portsmouth police report from over the past week.

Sunday, July 26

Mario R. Cardenas, 48, of 188 Hanover Ave., Apt. 2, Pawtucket, was charged at 8:29 a.m. with driving after his license had been denied, suspended or revoked. His car was stopped on East Main Road near Hedly Street because it had drifted over the fog line, police said.

Elizabeth A. Hayward, 24, of 86 Jerome St., Berkley, Mass., was charged at 1:48 p.m. with operating under a foreign license that had been suspended or revoked. Her car was stopped on West Main Road near Turkey Hill because Ms. Hayward was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.

Monday, July 27

Israel De la Cruz, 29, of 63 Independent St., Apt. 2, New Bedford, was charged at 7:29 p.m. with driving on an expired license. His car was pulled over on West Main Road at Turkey Hill because a large, heart-shaped ornament hanging from the center rearview mirror was obstructing the operator’s view, police said.

Shane N. Wyre, 26, of 27 Elm St., Newport, was charged at 10:01 p.m. with driving on an expired license. His car was stopped for speeding on East Main Road at Mintwater Brook Lane.

Thursday, July 30

Lucas M. Mahoney, 28, of 35 Bradley Terrace, was charged with violating a no-contact order. Police said that on the previous day, Mr. Mahoney showed up at the residence of his ex-girlfriend, who had a no-contact order against him. He was arrested in Middletown at about 7 a.m. and Portsmouth police took him into custody.

Gregory D. Delong, 48, of 619 Park Ave., was issued a summons to appear in the town’s Municipal Court to answer charges that he violated a town ordinance regarding abandoned or junked vehicles.

Friday, July 31

Michael J. Robidoux, 34, of 28 Sandringham Ave., Providence, was charged at about 7 p.m. with driving while intoxicated (first offense) and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Mr. Robidoux was arrested after rear-ending a vehicle on Route 24 northbound near Cedar Island, according to police.

Saturday, Aug. 1

Marlo L. Lawrence, 47, of 1782 West Main Road, was charged with willful trespass at 1:30 p.m. Ms. Lawrence was arrested while attending a function outside of Clements’ Marketplace, which had a no-trespassing order against her, according to police.

Angelo F. Grilli, 52, of 105 Heidi Drive, was charged with the use and possession of Class C fireworks. Police made the arrest after responding to a report of illegal fireworks at the address at about 9:05 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 2

David S. Weller, 58, of 127 Fish Road, Tiverton, was charged with driving while intoxicated (second offense) and refusal to submit to a chemical test at 2:03 a.m. His car was stopped for speeding on Route 24 northbound near Cedar Avenue.

Joan S. Perry, 51, of 142 Cortland St., Apt. 2, Providence, was charged at 5:35 p.m. with driving after her license had been denied, suspended or revoked. Police stopped her car in the area of Boyd’s Lane and the Mt. Hope Animal Hospital because the vehicle had a Rhode Island license plate but a Massachusetts inspection sticker.

Monday, Aug. 3

Sheldon F. Luther, 28, of 442 Taunton Ave., Seekonk, was charged at 1:27 a.m. with operating with a foreign license that had been suspended or revoked. Police stopped his car on Route 24 northbound near Freeborn Street because it had crossed over the lane of travel, police said. According to police, Mr. Luther blamed the traffic violation on his being upset over losing $900 while gambling at Newport Grand. A records check revealed there was a Cranston warrant for Mr. Luther’s arrest for obtaining money under false pretenses from the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation, according to police.
